RICHARD THYSSEN, Past-President

LSTAR’s Immediate Past President, Richard Thyssen is a native of Sarnia, Ontario, and joined the Association in 1985. In 1990, he was elected to the Marketing Division Board of Directors. Rising through the ranks of the Marketing Division, Richard became President in 1992 and continued to sit on the Marketing Division until 1995. As a member of the Division’s Executive, he sat on the Board of Directors from 1991 through 1993. Then he returned to the Marketing Division in 1998 and 1999, the year when he received an Award for Outstanding Service.

Throughout the years, Richard has sat on many committees – including the Executive, Nomination, Constitution and Bylaws, Discipline, Entertainment, Computer, Education, Finance, Christmas Party Committee, Golf, Membership, Membership Plus, PAC and MLS® Systems Committees. He has also chaired the Branding Task Force and sat on the Electronic Key Pad, OREA/CREA Conference, MLS® Rules & Regs/Policies, Business Partners, iLookabout and the Grand Theatre Task Forces, as well as the Government Relations Advisory Group. In addition, for a number of years, Richard has acted as an Orientation Guide for LSTAR. In 2011, Richard will continue to sit on the Executive Committee and to chair the Nomination Committee and to chair both the Conditional Sales and Education Outreach Tasks Forces.

Richard makes his home in Delaware along with his wife Colleen and son Liam. Richard enjoys hockey, skiing, canoeing and golfing, has been active as a Big Brother and has served as a Director of "Dads Can," an organization that promotes responsible and involved fathering.
