The Don Smith Commercial Building Awards were launched in 2009 by the Regional Commercial Council of the London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORSŽ to recognize and celebrate commercial building excellence. The awards were also established to inspire the architectural and construction community to include and to embrace innovation within their design criteria, so that our built heritage might better serve and better reflect our community.

Through the naming of these awards, the Regional Commercial Council is proud to honour Don Smith, whose company, EllisDon, began as a local contracting company right here in London with four employees in 1951. Since that time, EllisDon has gone global with presences from Vancouver to Halifax and from London, England to the United Arab Emirates. EllisDon has built projects in such diverse corners of the globe as Latvia, Greece, Puerto Rico, Alaska and London, England. The Don Smith Commercial Building Awards honour excellence, and excellence is what Don Smith has stood for and exemplified his entire life.

The 2009 awards reception took place on February 3, 2010 at The London Club. Details surrounding the next awards will be announced shortly.
