Fanshawe College has signed a partnership agreement with the London and St Thomas Association of REALTORS® (LSTAR). The agreement will focus on four key pillars to engage the region and raise awareness of the impacts real estate has on the economy, smart technology and consumer trends. The pillars are learning, technology, co-operative and internship placement, and data analysis.
LSTAR is a professional organization committed to providing their REALTOR® members with the support and tools they need to succeed in their profession. LSTAR is one of Canada’s 15 largest real estate associations, representing more than 1,700 REALTORS® working in Middlesex and Elgin counties, a trading area of 500,000 residents.
Fanshawe will be creating and delivering training for members of LSTAR to enhance business and entrepreneurial best practices in areas such as human resources, financial planning, change management and communication. LSTAR members will take courses on topics such as digital marketing, financial planning, employment regulations, personal branding, professional communication and teamwork.
"Fanshawe is pleased to offer training that gives LSTAR members a competitive edge in the real estate profession," said Bruce Smith, executive director of Fanshawe's Business Development and Strategic Support. "We look forward to helping LSTAR members build connections and network with the community."
"We are so excited about the partnership with Fanshawe," said John Geha, LSTAR. "Our REALTOR® members are passionate about helping people navigate through the dynamics of purchasing or selling a home. Fanshawe’s robust learning programs will enhance knowledge and professionalism, further supporting our members to deliver a highly valuable and meaningful service to consumers. As one of the leading higher learning institutions in Ontario, our partnership with Fanshawe is an optimal and natural fit."
The learning programs are scheduled to launch in June. In addition, LSTAR is hosting ESMART: The Economic and Smart Technology Summit at the London Convention Centre on April 23 and 24. Fanshawe and LSTAR are working closely to offer experiential learning during the event for Fanshawe students in programs such as Concierge, Food and Beverage, Culinary, and Special Events. Fanshawe’s Chief Infrastructure Officer Peter Gilbert will be the first keynote speaker at the event.
The organizations are also embarking on efforts to examine and analyze real estate data, to better understand trends and impacts of real estate on business growth and community viability.
“These collective efforts are about engaging the region and helping inform how real estate and local REALTORS® contribute to the overall home ownership experience,” said Jeff Nethercott, LSTAR President. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for collaboration, as we work to strengthen the communities we passionately serve.”
