Director of Engagement and Public Affairs

The London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORS® (LSTAR) is currently seeking a Director of Engagement and Public Affairs. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Public Affairs and Strategy, the successful candidate will lead membership and stakeholder communications, manage government and public relations, and provide leadership and mentorship to two Association departments.

Responsibilities include, (but are not limited to):

Communications, Public Relations and Government Relations

  • Oversee the development and implementation of the LSTAR Communication Plan, including crisis communications.
  • Oversee and develop the LSTAR Annual Report.
  • Oversee and develop content for a multitude of channels, including news releases, member-centric portals, and social media.
  • Oversee and develop presentation materials, including speaking notes, PowerPoint decks and video scripts.
  • Provide media relations support.
  • Attend various civic and community meetings and/or functions to represent LSTAR.
  • Act as the staff liaison to the LSTAR Political Affairs Committee.
  • Liaise with three levels of government, coordinate and manage meetings with municipal leadership, Members of Provincial Parliament, and Members of Parliament.

Job Skills and Knowledge

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, public relations, and communications.
  • 5 years or more of experience in leading, supervising and building teams.
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships with external stakeholders, including three levels of government, elected officials and collaborative partners.
  • Ability to counsel executive leadership team with recommendations that align and advance LSTAR’s Strategic Plan.
  • Manage key deliverables with a high degree of independence, initiative and sound judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office® applications, including Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions

Full-time position, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., 7 hours per day, at LSTAR’s offices at 342 Commissioners Rd West in London, Ontario. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000 annually, with two weeks of paid vacation the first year, three weeks of paid vacation in year two, followed by one additional day for every year employed at LSTAR up to a maximum of 30 days of paid vacation. Occasional attendance outside of these hours may be required for special events or to meet tight deadlines.
